Which film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature over Pixar's Cars?

The story behind the answer

Happy Feet won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature over Pixar's Cars.

At the 79th Academy Awards, Cars was nominated for Best Animated Feature alongside Happy Feet and Monster House. Happy Feet, directed by George Miller, received the award. The ceremony honored films released in 2006 and took place on February 25, 2007.

Cars did receive an Oscar nomination in that category, but it did not win. The result is sometimes misremembered because Cars was a major commercial success and became one of Pixar's most recognizable franchises.

The award was Happy Feet's only Oscar win from its nominations at that ceremony. Pixar later won Best Animated Feature for films including Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Brave, Inside Out, and Coco. Cars also received nominations for its original song and animated feature, but Happy Feet took the animation prize.
