Answer
Pokémon: The First Movie
Pokémon: The First Movie was the first Pokémon feature film released in Japan.
Toho released the animated movie theatrically in Japan on July 18, 1998. Its story centers on Mewtwo, a genetically engineered Pokémon who challenges the morality of its creation and seeks to prove its superiority over naturally born Pokémon.
The film was accompanied by the short film “Pikachu’s Vacation,” which follows Pikachu and other Pokémon at a seaside resort. In English-speaking markets, the movie was distributed by Warner Bros. and released in the United States in November 1999.
The movie is often called Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back because that phrase appears in its full English title. It was later remade as Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, a computer-animated version released in 2019.
