Which fighter won the first K-1 World Grand Prix tournament in 1993?

The story behind the answer

Branko Cikatić won the first K-1 World Grand Prix tournament in 1993.

Cikatić captured the inaugural tournament on April 30, 1993, in Tokyo, Japan. He defeated Changpoung Choi in the quarterfinal, Masaaki Satake in the semifinal, and Ernesto Hoost in the final. Cikatić won the final by first-round knockout.

K-1 was a Japanese kickboxing promotion whose rules combined techniques from several striking disciplines while restricting prolonged grappling. The 1993 tournament established the annual World Grand Prix format, which later became one of the most prominent events in heavyweight kickboxing.

The result is sometimes confused with later K-1 champions such as Hoost, Peter Aerts, or Andy Hug. Cikatić was the first tournament winner, while Hoost later became a four-time K-1 World Grand Prix champion.
