Which fictional town is the primary setting of Pixar’s Cars?

The story behind the answer

Radiator Springs is the primary setting of Pixar’s Cars.

Radiator Springs is a fictional town in Carburetor County, located along the historic U.S. Route 66 in the film’s version of the American Southwest. Lightning McQueen reaches the town after accidentally damaging its road and is ordered to repair it before leaving.

The town’s characters include Sally Carrera, Mater, Doc Hudson, Luigi, Guido, Flo, and Ramone. Their community helps McQueen understand the value of friendship and local history after his early focus on fame and winning has isolated him from others.

The setting was inspired by real Route 66 communities and landmarks that Pixar artists and filmmakers studied during research trips. Radiator Springs is not the same as Carburetor County: the former is the town, while the latter is the fictional county. Porto Corsa, meanwhile, is an Italian location in Cars 2.
