Lightning McQueen competes in the fictional World Grand Prix across Cars 2.

The World Grand Prix is a three-race international competition created by Miles Axlerod to promote Allinol. Its events take place in Tokyo, Porto Corsa and London, placing McQueen in unfamiliar settings against racers such as Francesco Bernoulli.

McQueen enters the competition as a celebrated Piston Cup champion, but the story gradually shifts attention toward Mater’s accidental involvement in espionage. The races provide the public spectacle while sabotage and intelligence work unfold behind the scenes.

The World Grand Prix should not be confused with the Piston Cup, the domestic stock-car championship central to Cars and Cars 3.
