Which fictional race created the Silmarils in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology?

The story behind the answer

The Noldor created the Silmarils in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology. The Elven craftsman Fëanor made the three jewels during the Years of the Trees in Valinor, before the First Age of Middle-earth.

Fëanor captured the light of the Two Trees of Valinor in the jewels, making them among the most precious objects in Tolkien’s legendarium. Morgoth stole them after destroying the Trees and killing Finwë, Fëanor’s father, which led to Fëanor’s oath and the Noldor’s disastrous departure from Valinor.

The Silmarils are not Rings of Power and were not created by the Dwarves. Their story is the central thread of The Silmarillion, connecting the wars of the First Age with the eventual fate of Elves, Men, and Morgoth.
