J.R.R. Tolkien’s character Legolas belongs to the Elves.
Legolas is an Elf of the Woodland Realm and the son of King Thranduil. He joins the Fellowship of the Ring at Rivendell and becomes a companion of Aragorn, Gimli, and the other members during the War of the Ring. Tolkien presents him as an exceptional archer and keen-eyed traveler.
Legolas and Gimli are notable because their friendship grows despite the long hostility between many Elves and Dwarves. This relationship is a recurring example of cooperation across old divisions. Legolas is not a High Elf from Valinor in Tolkien’s main narrative; he is a Sindarin Elf associated with the woodland kingdom in Mirkwood.
