Which fictional people are led by Théoden in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings?

The story behind the answer

The Rohirrim are the fictional people led by Théoden in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

The Rohirrim are the horse-lords of Rohan, a kingdom in northwestern Middle-earth. Their culture, names, and language draw heavily on Tolkien’s knowledge of Old English. Théoden is their king during the War of the Ring, although the evil influence of Gríma Wormtongue and Saruman leaves him weakened at the start of the story.

After Gandalf helps restore Théoden’s judgment, the king leads his riders to the defence of Helm’s Deep and later to Gondor’s aid. The Rohirrim are sometimes confused with the Dúnedain, who are descended from Númenórean exiles, or with the Haradrim, peoples from the southern regions. The Rohirrim’s defining association is mounted warfare, especially their famous charge at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
