Cormoran Strike is the title detective in J.K. Rowling’s crime novels written under a pseudonym.
Rowling publishes the series as Robert Galbraith. Cormoran Strike is a private detective and former Royal Military Police investigator who runs a London detective agency. His investigations are presented through a grounded crime-fiction style rather than the fantasy setting of Harry Potter.
The first novel, The Cuckoo’s Calling, appeared in 2013 and initially attracted attention under the previously unknown name Robert Galbraith. Rowling’s authorship was later revealed. The books also feature Robin Ellacott, whose professional partnership with Strike develops across the series.
Strike should not be confused with a single book title: he is the recurring central character. The television adaptation, Strike, is based on Rowling’s crime novels and uses the same detective and supporting characters.
