Which Ferrari model was the first to use a V8 engine?

The Ferrari model that was first to use a V8 engine in a production road car was the Dino 308 GT4.

Introduced in 1973, the 308 GT4 used a 2.9-liter Dino V8 mounted transversely behind the passenger compartment. It was Ferrari’s first mid-engined 2+2 road car and established the rear-mid-engine V8 layout that would become central to Ferrari’s sports-car range.

The car initially wore Dino badges rather than Ferrari badges. Ferrari used the Dino name to distinguish models powered by engines smaller than its traditional V12s. In May 1976, the model received Ferrari badging, so references may call it either the Dino 308 GT4 or the Ferrari 308 GT4.

The 308 GT4 is often confused with the later 308 GTB and 308 GTS, which also used Dino V8 engines. Those two-seaters followed its technical lead. The GT4 was styled by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, making it the only production Ferrari with Bertone bodywork; it was replaced by the Mondial 8 in 1980.
