Which Ferrari model succeeded the 512 BB?

The Ferrari Testarossa succeeded the 512 BB, more precisely the final 512 BBi version of Ferrari’s Berlinetta Boxer family. It replaced Ferrari’s earlier mid-engine flat-12 grand tourer when production began in 1984.

Designed by Pininfarina, the Testarossa retained a mid-mounted 12-cylinder layout but introduced a dramatically wider body and distinctive side strakes. Those strakes directed cooling air to the radiators positioned behind the doors, solving packaging and heat-management challenges created by the flat-12 engine.

The original Testarossa used a 4.9-liter flat-12 engine and a five-speed manual transmission. It debuted at the 1984 Paris Auto Show and was produced from 1984 to 1991. Ferrari later updated it as the 512 TR for 1992 and the F512 M for 1994; these revisions are often grouped with the Testarossa family.

A frequent mistake is choosing the 365 GT4 BB, which was an earlier Berlinetta Boxer predecessor, or the F40, which was a separate turbocharged V8 supercar. The Testarossa’s direct predecessor was the 512 BBi.
