The Ferrari 488 GTB succeeded the Ferrari 458 Italia.

Ferrari unveiled the 488 GTB in 2015 as the successor to the 458 range. The name “GTB” stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, reviving a designation Ferrari had used on earlier berlinetta models. The 488’s styling evolved from the 458, but its engineering marked a major change: Ferrari replaced the 458 Italia’s naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 with a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8.

The 488 GTB produced 670 metric horsepower and used a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Turbocharging increased torque and performance while also making the engine smaller in displacement than the 458’s 4.5-liter unit. The 488 name reflects its approximate 488-cc displacement per cylinder.

The 488 family also included the open-top 488 Spider and the more track-focused 488 Pista. The Pista was not the successor itself; it was a high-performance derivative of the 488. Ferrari later replaced the 488 range with the F8 Tributo, introduced in 2019.
