The fast food chain that uses the slogan “Finger Lickin’ Good” is KFC.
KFC, originally known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, built its identity around fried chicken and the image of founder Harland Sanders. The slogan emerged in the 1950s and became closely associated with the chain’s promise of flavorful, crispy chicken. It was trademarked in 1956 and later became one of the most recognizable advertising lines in the world.
The phrase reportedly came from a KFC television advertisement in which franchisee Dave Harman was seen licking his fingers in the background. After a viewer complained about the gesture, manager Ken Harbough reportedly replied, “Well, it’s finger lickin’ good.” KFC eventually adopted the wording nationally.
The slogan has not been used continuously everywhere. KFC temporarily suspended it in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic because the wording conflicted with public-health advice about touching one’s face. Other KFC slogans have included “We Do Chicken Right” and “So Good.”
