Which fast-food chain popularized the 30-minute pizza delivery guarantee?

The story behind the answer

Domino's popularized the 30-minute pizza delivery guarantee.

Domino’s used the promise that pizza would arrive within 30 minutes of ordering, or the customer could receive compensation under the applicable terms. The guarantee became one of the most recognizable delivery promotions in fast-food history and helped distinguish Domino’s from traditional sit-down pizza restaurants.

The policy was introduced during the 1970s and expanded as Domino’s developed a system built around standardized stores, telephone ordering, and delivery logistics. Its advertisements made speed a central part of the brand’s identity.

The guarantee was not an unconditional promise everywhere. Local laws, franchise policies, weather, traffic, and other conditions affected how it operated, and Domino’s eventually discontinued the policy in the United States in 1993 after legal and safety concerns. The company continued emphasizing delivery, but without the original blanket guarantee.
