Which fantasy series by C.S. Lewis contains seven published novels?

The story behind the answer

The Chronicles of Narnia is C.S. Lewis’s fantasy series containing seven published novels.

Lewis wrote the seven Narnia books between 1949 and 1954. The series begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950, and includes six other novels set in or connected with the fictional world of Narnia. The books feature talking animals, mythical creatures, children from the human world, and the lion Aslan.

Publication order and internal chronological order are not identical. The Magician’s Nephew describes events earlier in Narnian history but was published sixth. This difference explains why reading lists sometimes place the books in different sequences.

The series is often called a seven-book cycle rather than a single novel. It should also not be confused with Lewis’s Space Trilogy, which consists of three adult science-fiction novels. Narnia remains Lewis’s most widely recognized fictional creation and has been adapted for stage, radio, television, and film.
