Which famous bridge carries railway tracks across Sydney Harbour in Australia?

The story behind the answer

The Sydney Harbour Bridge carries railway tracks across Sydney Harbour in Australia.

The steel through arch bridge links Sydney’s central business district on the southern shore with the North Shore. In addition to railway tracks, it carries road traffic, bicycles and pedestrians, making it one of the city’s most important transport links and landmarks.

Construction began in 1924, and the bridge officially opened on 19 March 1932. Its main arch spans 503 metres, while the top of the arch rises about 134 metres above the harbour. The railway approaches connect directly with Sydney’s suburban rail network.

The bridge is sometimes confused with the nearby Sydney Harbour Tunnel, which opened in 1992 and carries road vehicles beneath the harbour. The bridge itself remains a combined rail-and-road structure, and its railway tracks have been central to Sydney’s transport system since opening.
