Persol patented its Meflecto flexible temple system in 1938.
Meflecto was developed to let the temples flex and adapt more comfortably around the wearer’s head. The system became one of Persol’s most recognizable technical features and helped distinguish the company’s frames from conventional rigid designs.
Persol originated in Turin, Italy, where Giuseppe Ratti established the company in 1917. The name is commonly explained as deriving from the Italian phrase “per il sole,” meaning “for the sun.” The company first became associated with protective eyewear for pilots, drivers, and other outdoor users.
Meflecto is a construction system, not a lens type or a particular sunglass model. It is also separate from Persol’s Arrow symbol, which is a decorative and identifying design element used on many frames.
