Which sunglasses brand takes its name from French skier Jean Vuarnet?

The story behind the answer

Vuarnet takes its name from French skier Jean Vuarnet.

Jean Vuarnet won the men’s downhill gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. After his victory, the eyewear company that developed the brand adopted his name, linking the sunglasses with alpine sport and mountain performance.

Vuarnet became associated with mineral-glass lenses and French manufacturing. Its eyewear was used both for protection in bright mountain environments and as a fashion item, particularly during periods when distinctive oversized sunglasses were popular.

The brand is often confused with other French or European eyewear companies with winter-sports histories, including Bollé, Cebe, and Julbo. Those are separate brands and are not named after Jean Vuarnet.
