Ray-Ban introduced Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses with Facebook in 2021.
The glasses combined familiar Ray-Ban frames with two small cameras, open-ear speakers, microphones and wireless connectivity. Users could capture photos and short videos from the glasses and share them through Facebook’s companion app.
The product was created through a partnership between EssilorLuxottica, which owns Ray-Ban, and Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms. The launch was an important step in bringing camera-enabled wearable technology into a mainstream eyewear brand.
Ray-Ban Stories are sometimes confused with augmented-reality glasses. The first-generation Stories did not project images into the wearer’s field of view; they were camera and audio glasses rather than full AR spectacles. Meta later developed other smart-glasses products with Ray-Ban, including Ray-Ban Meta.
