Which ex-Foo Fighters member returned for the "In Your Honor" tour?
Answer
Pat Smear
Answer
Pat Smear
Pat Smear returned for the Foo Fighters’ In Your Honor tour. The former guitarist rejoined the group as an additional musician for the acoustic performances connected with the 2005–06 tour.
Smear had been a founding-era Foo Fighters guitarist after previously touring with Nirvana alongside Dave Grohl. He left Foo Fighters in 1997, citing exhaustion and the pressures of touring, and was replaced in the touring lineup by Franz Stahl. His return gave the band a direct link to its early history.
The In Your Honor tour was unusual because Foo Fighters played two formats in many cities: loud electric arena shows and smaller acoustic concerts. Smear primarily contributed to the acoustic side. He remained a touring musician for several years afterward and eventually became a full-time Foo Fighters member again during the era of Wasting Light.
A common mix-up is treating this as his permanent return in 2005; at first, he was a touring and auxiliary member rather than a full-time recording-band member.
