Mike D’Antoni won the FIBA European Cup with Benetton Treviso in 1995 before joining the 2026 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class.
D’Antoni coached Benetton Treviso from 1994 to 1997 during an important period in European club basketball. In 1995, Treviso won the FIBA European Cup, a continental competition that was later renamed the FIBA Saporta Cup. The title was one of D’Antoni’s notable achievements as a coach in Italy.
This competition is easy to confuse with the EuroLeague, Europe’s top-level club tournament. D’Antoni won two EuroLeague titles as a player with Olimpia Milano, but his 1995 European trophy came as Treviso’s coach in the FIBA European Cup.
D’Antoni also won the Italian Cup with Treviso in 1995 and later guided the club to an Italian league championship in 1997. His European coaching record helped establish the international side of his basketball résumé.
