Which esports organization won the 2017 League of Legends World Championship?

Samsung Galaxy won the 2017 League of Legends World Championship.

Samsung Galaxy defeated SK Telecom T1 3–0 in the final at Beijing’s National Stadium, often called the Bird’s Nest. The victory avenged Samsung’s loss to SK Telecom T1 in the 2016 World Championship final and gave Samsung its first League of Legends world title.

The final was notable because SK Telecom T1 had won the championship in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Samsung’s clean sweep therefore ended one of the strongest periods of dominance in League of Legends history.

The organization later rebranded its League team as Gen.G. That name change can cause confusion when historical results are listed: Samsung Galaxy won the 2017 title, while Gen.G won later championships. The 2017 event also used a single-elimination knockout stage after regional and group phases.
