Which episode features the death of Chef?

The episode featuring Chef’s death is “The Return of Chef.” In the story, Chef returns to South Park after being manipulated by the Super Adventure Club, but he remains conflicted about whether to stay with the group or return to his old life.

“The Return of Chef” is the first episode of South Park’s tenth season and originally aired on March 22, 2006. As Chef crosses a bridge, lightning strikes it and the structure collapses, sending him to his apparent death. The episode then turns the character into “Darth Chef” when the Super Adventure Club resurrects him and completes his brainwashing.

The episode was written as a response to Isaac Hayes’s departure from the series. Hayes, who provided Chef’s voice, left after the show’s creators criticized Scientology in “Trapped in the Closet.” Because Chef’s death is part of a larger satire about that dispute, viewers sometimes remember the character’s exit as simply a permanent death. The episode itself complicates that idea by bringing him back in a transformed form.
