Which electric vehicle won the 2019 World Car of the Year award?
Answer
Jaguar I-Pace
Answer
Jaguar I-Pace
The Jaguar I-Pace won the 2019 World Car of the Year award.
Jaguar introduced the I-Pace as a battery-electric performance SUV. It uses electric motors on both axles, giving it all-wheel drive, and its battery pack is mounted low in the vehicle to help lower the center of gravity. The design was developed specifically around electric propulsion rather than converting an existing combustion-powered Jaguar.
At the 2019 World Car Awards, the I-Pace also received the World Green Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year titles. Its overall victory made it the first Jaguar to win the main World Car of the Year award.
The award should not be confused with Europe’s Car of the Year prize or individual national “car of the year” awards. Several electric vehicles have won those separate honors, but the 2019 World Car of the Year result specifically recognized the Jaguar I-Pace.
