The Kia EV6 won the 2022 European Car of the Year award.
It was the first Kia to receive the award, winning ahead of finalists that included the Renault Mégane E-Tech and Hyundai Ioniq 5. The result reflected the growing importance of battery-electric vehicles in the European market.
The EV6 is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP. It uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing high-power DC charging under suitable conditions.
The EV6 is often mixed up with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 because the two vehicles share major underlying engineering. They are separate models with different styling, cabin layouts and brand identities. The European Car of the Year award is decided by automotive journalists from multiple European countries.
