Which electric racing car won the first Formula E race in 2014?

The story behind the answer

The Spark-Renault SRT_01E won the first Formula E race in 2014.

Lucas di Grassi drove a Spark-Renault SRT_01E to victory in the inaugural Formula E ePrix in Beijing on 13 September 2014. The car was the standardized first-generation chassis used by every team during Formula E’s opening season.

Spark Racing Technology built the chassis, while Renault supplied the electric powertrain and several other suppliers provided components. The car used a battery designed for the original race format, in which drivers changed cars during the event because one battery could not last the full distance at racing speed.

Formula E later moved to more powerful cars with larger energy capacity and eliminated the mid-race car swap. The SRT_01E is therefore important not only as the first Formula E race winner but also as the machine that established the championship’s original technical format.
