Which electric pickup became the first vehicle to use Ford’s modern F-150 Lightning name?

The story behind the answer

The Ford F-150 Lightning became the first electric vehicle to use Ford’s modern F-150 Lightning name.

Ford unveiled the battery-electric F-150 Lightning in May 2021 and began customer deliveries in 2022. It uses the F-150 name and pickup body style but has electric motors and a high-voltage battery pack instead of a gasoline or diesel powertrain. The truck is offered with all-wheel drive and features a lockable front storage compartment called the Mega Power Frunk.

The name Lightning had already been used by Ford for high-performance gasoline F-150 models in the 1990s and early 2000s. The electric truck therefore revived a familiar performance badge while applying it to a different propulsion system.

The F-150 Lightning is distinct from the Ford E-Transit, an electric commercial van, and from the hybrid F-150 PowerBoost. It also introduced features such as Ford Intelligent Backup Power, allowing suitably equipped homes to draw electricity from the truck during an outage.
