Which Egyptian pharaoh’s tomb was discovered nearly intact by Howard Carter in 1922?

The story behind the answer

Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered nearly intact by Howard Carter in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings in 1922.

Carter found the entrance on 4 November 1922 while excavating for Lord Carnarvon. The burial chamber was opened in February 1923, revealing the young king’s mummy and a remarkable collection of funerary objects, including the famous gold burial mask. The tomb is designated KV62.

Tutankhamun ruled during the Eighteenth Dynasty and probably became pharaoh as a child. His reign is especially important because he restored traditional religious practices after the changes associated with Akhenaten. He died at about 19 years old. The tomb was not completely untouched, since ancient robbers entered it, but most of its contents survived compared with other royal burials.
