Which Edison company manufactured Portland cement?
Answer
Edison Portland Cement Company
Answer
Edison Portland Cement Company
The Edison Portland Cement Company manufactured Portland cement.
Edison founded the company in 1899 to develop and sell cement made with improved production methods. He designed rotary kilns and other equipment intended to make cement manufacturing more efficient and consistent. The company operated in New Jersey and supplied cement for construction projects.
Edison also promoted concrete construction, including experimental concrete houses and furniture. His cement business was therefore connected to a wider interest in industrial materials and mass production, not simply to electrical inventions.
The company is sometimes confused with Edison General Electric, which became part of General Electric in 1892, or with Edison’s phonograph businesses. Those enterprises dealt with electricity and sound recording. Edison Portland Cement Company belonged to his later industrial ventures and reflected his continuing interest in large-scale manufacturing.
