Which duo composed the theme music for "Parks and Recreation"?

The story behind the answer

The “Parks and Recreation” theme music was composed by Gaby Moreno and Vincent Jones.

The producers needed a theme song shortly before the series premiered, so they turned to BMI for help finding composers. BMI sent a submission request to numerous composers, giving them only five days to submit an entry. The winning composition came from Moreno and Jones, who received $7,500 in exchange for releasing all rights to NBC under the competition’s terms.

The bright, compact theme was intended to make viewers immediately associate the music with Pawnee and the show’s characters. Its upbeat sound helped establish the series as a warm comedy about ordinary municipal work rather than a grand political drama.

Although the program has a recognizable opening theme, it generally does not rely on composed background music in the same way many sitcoms do. Its mockumentary presentation, handheld camerawork, interviews, and improvised reactions create much of the rhythm. The names in the wrong options are connected to other television projects, but they did not compose this theme.
