Answer
Woolf Barnato
Which driver won all three of his Le Mans entries from 1928 to 1930? Woolf Barnato won all three. His perfect record covered victories in 1928, 1929 and 1930.
Barnato first won in 1928 with Bernard Rubin in a Bentley 4½ Litre. In 1929 he shared a Bentley Speed Six with Sir Henry “Tim” Birkin, and in 1930 he won again in a Speed Six with Glen Kidston. Those were his only three Le Mans starts, giving him a remarkable three-from-three record.
The achievement was part of Bentley’s early golden age at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Barnato was not merely a driver: he was also chairman of Bentley Motors and helped support the company during its most successful pre-war racing period. His 1930 victory was his third consecutive win, after which he retired from Le Mans competition.
Barnato is sometimes confused with his famous co-drivers, especially Birkin and Kidston. They were also important Bentley Boys, but neither matched Barnato’s exact record of winning every Le Mans race he entered. His 1930 victory also made Bentley the winner of five of the first eight editions.
