Jacky Ickx ranks second all-time at Le Mans with six overall wins. The Belgian’s victories came in 1969, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1981 and 1982.

Ickx’s first win was especially dramatic: sharing a Ford GT40 with Jackie Oliver in 1969, he beat the leading Porsche by only a few seconds after a last-lap duel. His later victories came with Porsche, including three consecutive wins from 1975 through 1977.

Only Tom Kristensen has more overall Le Mans victories, with nine. Ickx is often confused with Derek Bell, Emanuele Pirro or Henri Pescarolo, all major endurance drivers, but each has fewer wins. Bell and Pirro have five apiece, while Pescarolo has four.

Ickx’s six victories span two very different eras: the classic Ford-versus-Porsche period and Porsche’s dominant early-1980s Group C years. That longevity is central to his place in Le Mans history.
