Niki Lauda is the only driver to have won the Formula One World Championship with both Ferrari and McLaren.
The Austrian won his first title with Ferrari in 1975, driving the highly successful 312T. He won again for Ferrari in 1977 after recovering from the life-threatening injuries suffered in his 1976 Nürburgring crash. Those Ferrari championships established him as one of the sport’s most analytical and technically minded drivers.
Lauda later returned to Formula One with McLaren after a brief retirement. In 1984, he beat teammate Alain Prost to the championship by just half a point—the smallest margin in F1 history. Lauda won five races that season, while Prost won seven, but Lauda’s consistency secured his third and final title.
Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton won championships for Ferrari and Mercedes respectively, not both Ferrari and McLaren. Alain Prost won titles with McLaren and Williams, while his Ferrari seasons did not produce a championship.
