Star Tours is Disneyland’s motion-simulator attraction set in the Star Wars universe. Riders board a Starspeeder for a simulated space journey filled with projected action and synchronized cabin movement.
The original Star Tours opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland on January 9, 1987. It replaced Adventure Thru Inner Space and was created through a partnership between Disney and George Lucas. The attraction used hydraulic simulator cabins and a specially produced Star Wars flight film, putting guests in the role of space tourists.
The original Disneyland version closed in 2010 and was replaced by Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, which opened on June 3, 2011. The newer attraction retains the Star Tours name and motion-simulator format while adding high-definition 3-D imagery, new destinations, and randomized scene combinations.
Hyperspace Mountain is a Star Wars overlay of a roller coaster, while Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is an interactive cockpit ride. Rise of the Resistance is a trackless dark ride, so Star Tours is the canonical answer.
