Which developer created the original Pokémon video games?
Answer
Game Freak
Answer
Game Freak
Game Freak created the original Pokémon video games.
The Japanese development studio made Pokémon Red and Green for Nintendo’s Game Boy. Satoshi Tajiri directed and designed the project, while artist Ken Sugimori helped establish the visual identity of the original Pokémon species. Nintendo published the games and supported their development, but Game Freak was the developer responsible for making them.
Game Freak began as a video-game fanzine created by Tajiri and later became a development company. The studio’s name came from that earlier magazine. Before Pokémon, it created games including Mendel Palace and Pulseman, giving the team experience with design and programming.
Players sometimes credit Nintendo alone because Nintendo published the games and owns a major share of the franchise’s business. However, the original Pokémon games were a Game Freak production. Creatures, another important partner, contributed to the franchise and later became involved in areas including the trading card game and 3D modeling.
