Which developer created Pokémon Red and Green for the Game Boy?

The story behind the answer

Game Freak developed Pokémon Red and Green for the Game Boy.

Game Freak began as a video game magazine and creative group before becoming a development studio. Satoshi Tajiri, one of its founders, conceived the Pokémon idea from his childhood interest in collecting insects and his fascination with the Game Boy Link Cable.

Nintendo published the original games, while Creatures also became an important partner in the broader Pokémon business. This division of roles is why Nintendo is often associated with Pokémon even though Game Freak developed the mainline games.

The original project took several years to complete and experienced delays before its Japanese release in 1996. Game Freak’s design combined role-playing elements with collecting, trading, and battles, creating the structure that later Pokémon games continued to refine.
