Which designer created Lady Gaga’s blue Valentino gown for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards?

The story behind the answer

Pierpaolo Piccioli created Lady Gaga’s blue Valentino gown for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards.

Gaga wore the pale-blue Valentino Haute Couture gown at the 76th Golden Globe Awards on 6 January 2019. The dress had a voluminous skirt and a matching swept-back hair color, creating a coordinated monochromatic appearance as she promoted A Star Is Born.

Piccioli was Valentino’s sole creative director from 2016, after previously sharing the role with Maria Grazia Chiuri. His couture work is noted for dramatic volume, saturated color and an ability to make a simple color concept feel monumental on the red carpet.

The gown is often mistakenly attributed to Chiuri because she and Piccioli had led Valentino together for many years. By the 2019 ceremony, Chiuri was creative director of Dior, while Piccioli was responsible for Valentino couture.
