Which designer created Kim Kardashian’s floral Givenchy gown for the 2013 Met Gala?

The story behind the answer

Riccardo Tisci created Kim Kardashian’s floral Givenchy gown for the 2013 Met Gala.

Kardashian wore the long-sleeved, high-necked gown with matching gloves while attending the Costume Institute exhibition “Punk: Chaos to Couture.” The dress featured a dark floral print, a thigh-high slit and a trailing hem, and it became one of the night’s most debated looks.

Tisci was then the creative director of Givenchy, and he designed the outfit specifically for Kardashian. The appearance also drew attention because Kardashian was pregnant with her first child, North West, at the time.

A frequent mix-up is identifying the gown only as “Givenchy” and leaving out its designer. Givenchy is the fashion house; Riccardo Tisci is the individual designer credited with the look. The 2013 Met Gala’s theme was punk, although the floral gown was often criticized as not matching the theme closely.
