Which desert in Pakistan is also known locally as the Rohi Desert?
Answer
Cholistan Desert
Answer
Cholistan Desert
The Cholistan Desert in Pakistan is also known locally as the Rohi Desert.
It occupies much of southern Punjab, extending from near the Sutlej River toward the Thar Desert. The region is part of the broader Cholistan, or Rohi, cultural landscape and is characterized by sandy dunes, sparse vegetation, and a very dry climate.
The desert’s most famous landmark is Derawar Fort, a massive square fortress whose circular bastions rise dramatically above the surrounding sands. Cholistan is also associated with the annual Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally, one of Pakistan’s best-known motor-sport events.
Cholistan is sometimes confused with the Thar Desert because both occur in the arid southeastern part of the Indian subcontinent. The Thar is much larger and crosses the international border into India, while Cholistan lies within Pakistan and forms part of its western zone.
