Which defunct IPL franchise played from 2011 to 2013?

The story behind the answer

Pune Warriors India was the defunct IPL franchise that played from 2011 to 2013. It represented Pune and entered the league as one of two expansion teams added for the 2011 season.

Owned by Sahara India Pariwar, the team featured notable players including Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa, Angelo Mathews, Steve Smith and Sourav Ganguly. Its designated Pune home ground was not ready in 2011, so the franchise played home matches at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai before moving to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium from 2012.

Pune Warriors India struggled throughout its three-season run. It finished second-last in 2011, last in 2012 and second-last again in 2013. Across 46 matches, the team recorded 12 wins, 33 losses and one no-result.

The franchise withdrew from the IPL in May 2013 after financial disagreements with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and the BCCI formally terminated its contract later that year. It is often confused with Rising Pune Supergiant, another Pune-based team that played only in 2016 and 2017.
