Which defenseman holds the NHL record for career regular-season points?

Ray Bourque holds the NHL record for career regular-season points by a defenseman.

Bourque finished his NHL career with 1,579 regular-season points, including 410 goals and 1,169 assists. He played primarily for the Boston Bruins before joining the Colorado Avalanche late in his career.

His combination of durability, passing, and scoring made him one of the most productive defensemen in hockey history. Bourque appeared in 19 All-Star Games and won the Norris Trophy five times as the NHL’s best defenseman.

Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey are also among the highest-scoring defensemen, which can lead to confusion about the record. Bourque’s total covers regular-season statistics; playoff points are counted separately.
