Which Danish city is home to the original Legoland theme park?

The story behind the answer

Billund is the Danish city home to the original Legoland theme park.

Legoland Billund Resort opened in 1968 beside the headquarters and factory of the Lego Group. The park was designed to attract visitors to the home of Lego, the construction-toy company founded by Ole Kirk Christiansen.

A central attraction is Miniland, where buildings, landmarks, and landscapes are recreated from millions of Lego bricks. The park also contains rides, themed areas, interactive exhibits, restaurants, and seasonal entertainment.

Billund is in central Jutland, not on the island of Zealand where Copenhagen is located. The town’s international profile grew strongly through Lego and Billund Airport, which opened in 1964 and became an important gateway for western Denmark. Other Legoland parks later opened in countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States, but Billund was the first.
