Which cyclist won the 2020 Tour de France after overturning a 57-second deficit in the final time trial?

The story behind the answer

Tadej Pogačar won the 2020 Tour de France after overturning a 57-second deficit in the final time trial.

Pogačar entered the penultimate stage second overall, behind fellow Slovenian Primož Roglič. The stage was an individual time trial from Lure to La Planche des Belles Filles, and Pogačar produced a spectacular ride to gain enough time for the overall lead.

He won the Tour by 59 seconds over Roglič, becoming the race’s youngest winner since Henri Cornet in 1904. The result also made Pogačar the first rider to win the general, mountains and young-rider classifications in the same Tour since Eddy Merckx in 1969.

The victory was Pogačar’s first Tour de France title. He later became one of cycling’s leading stage-race and one-day-race riders.
