Which cyclist won the 2019 Tour de France?
Answer
Egan Bernal
Answer
Egan Bernal
Egan Bernal won the 2019 Tour de France.
Bernal, riding for Team Ineos, became the first Colombian winner of the Tour de France. He was 22 years old when he secured the overall victory, making him the youngest winner of the race in the post-World War II era. His final advantage over teammate Geraint Thomas was 1 minute 11 seconds.
The 2019 race covered 3,365.8 kilometres in 21 stages. Bernal took control in the Alps, where the shortened stage to Tignes was stopped because of hail and unsafe road conditions before the summit finish could be completed. The race then concluded with the traditional procession into Paris.
The result is sometimes confused with the 2018 Tour, which was won by Geraint Thomas, or the 2020 Tour, won by Tadej Pogačar. Bernal’s victory was especially significant in Colombia, a country with a strong mountain-cycling tradition and a long history of producing elite climbers.
