Cadel Evans won the 2011 Tour de France after finishing second in 2007 and 2008.
The Australian rider became the first cyclist from Australia to win the Tour’s general classification. He entered the final individual time trial in second place, 57 seconds behind Andy Schleck, then overturned the deficit with a faster ride.
Evans won the race by 1 minute 34 seconds over Schleck. His victory came after two previous runner-up finishes, making the result one of the notable late-career achievements in Tour history.
The 2011 edition was decided on the final time trial rather than a mountain-stage finish. Evans wore the yellow jersey before the finish, but the decisive change occurred when the time trial ended in Grenoble.
