Which cyclist won the 1967 UCI Road World Championship road race?
Answer
Eddy Merckx
Answer
Eddy Merckx
Eddy Merckx won the 1967 UCI Road World Championship road race.
Merckx took the professional men’s road race title at Heerlen in the Netherlands. The victory came early in his professional career and gave him the rainbow jersey, which identifies the reigning world champion in road racing. He won the race ahead of fellow Belgian Marcel Boey.
Merckx later became the most decorated rider in many areas of professional road cycling. His major victories included five Tours de France, five Giros d’Italia and one Vuelta a España, as well as one-day classics and world titles.
The world championship is a one-day event, unlike a stage race. Its winner receives the right to wear the rainbow jersey in ordinary races of the relevant discipline until the next championship. The jersey’s bands are widely associated with world-championship cycling.
