Which cyclist has won the most Olympic medals in history?

The story behind the answer

Jason Kenny has won the most Olympic medals of any cyclist, with nine.

The British track cyclist won seven Olympic gold medals and two silver medals across four Games from 2004 through 2020. His medals came in sprint and team-sprint events, as well as the keirin. That total made him Britain's most successful Olympian by gold medals and the most decorated Olympic cyclist.

Kenny first won Olympic gold at Beijing 2008 in the team sprint. He later became a dominant individual sprinter, winning consecutive men's sprint titles at London 2012 and Rio 2016, before adding another keirin gold at Tokyo 2020.

Chris Hoy, another British track champion, also won six Olympic gold medals, but his total Olympic medal count is lower. Jason Kenny retired from elite cycling after the Tokyo Games and later worked in British track cycling as a coach.
