Which cycling race is traditionally called La Primavera, meaning “The Spring”?
Answer
Milan–San Remo
Answer
Milan–San Remo
Milan–San Remo is traditionally called La Primavera, meaning “The Spring.”
The Italian one-day classic runs from Milan to San Remo on the Ligurian coast. Its name reflects both its season and its long route through northern Italy. The race is usually held in March and is one of cycling's five Monuments, the sport's most prestigious one-day classics.
Milan–San Remo is known for its unusual combination of length and relatively modest climbing. The decisive moments often come on the late climbs, especially the Cipressa and the Poggio di San Remo, followed by a fast descent toward the finish.
The race is also called La Classicissima. It should not be confused with Liège–Bastogne–Liège, known as La Doyenne, or the Tour of Flanders, another Monument with a different route and terrain.
