Cisco acquired Splunk in 2024 for approximately $28 billion.
Cisco announced the agreement in September 2023 and completed the acquisition on March 18, 2024. Cisco paid $157 per share in cash, with the transaction valued at about $28 billion. Splunk’s chief executive, Gary Steele, joined Cisco’s executive leadership after the closing.
Splunk developed software that collects and analyzes machine-generated data, including logs from applications, servers, networks, and security systems. Organizations use the platform for observability, operational monitoring, and cybersecurity investigations. Cisco said combining Splunk’s data and security capabilities with its own networking portfolio would help customers detect and respond to threats.
The deal required regulatory review, including approval from the European Commission. Splunk remained a recognizable product and business within Cisco rather than disappearing immediately as a standalone technology brand.
