Which C.S. Lewis novel features the fictional planet Perelandra?
Answer
Perelandra
Answer
Perelandra
Perelandra is the C.S. Lewis novel that features the fictional planet Perelandra. Published in 1943, it is the second book in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, also known as the Ransom Trilogy.
The story follows Elwin Ransom after he travels to Perelandra, a world corresponding to Venus. There he encounters a newly created human society and a conflict that recalls the temptation narrative in Genesis. The novel combines planetary romance, theology, mythology, and philosophical speculation.
The title creates a common source of confusion because the novel and its planet share the same name. Out of the Silent Planet, published in 1938, is the trilogy’s first volume, while That Hideous Strength, published in 1945, is the third. The books can be read in publication order.
